Apartments.com Finds Where Your Grass is Greenest

This post brought to you by apartments.com. All opinions are 100% mine.
We are so close to listing our home for sale now. We've done lots of the jobs on the "honey do" list, but still have a few left to complete. We hope to list our house in March so we can have it sold by June, when the boys graduate. If it sells quickly, we'll definitely be looking for another place in Pflugerville to stay until the boys head to college in the fall. We'll be using apartments.com to find our "transition home" until we're ready to buy our "empty nest" home.
 photo Apts_PrfctFit_rgbjpg_zpsf00a594a.jpg
I logged on to apartments.com and typed in our zip code, specifying a three bedroom, two bathroom requirement and immediately got a huge list of great apartments and homes in all budget ranges. It will be so easy for us to find where our grass is greenest! The search options also include a minimum rent amount to a maximum rent amount, plus you can plug in your desired amentities (like a pool, fireplace, fitness center, or even if they allow pets).
The website is very easy to navigate and there are tons of great high-quality photos of available places. I was really surprised at how much information is provided for each location! There is even a mobile app available for apartments.com for iPhone, iPad, and Android, so I can access it while we're out visiting possible apartments.
Visit apartments.com for your next apartment search and be sure to follow them on Twitter @aptscom!

Pet Responsibility Month Dog Training Tips

I get so sad when I hear about dogs biting people because I know that ultimately the owner is responsible for the animal's behavior. The best thing you can do for your pet, to show him you love him, is train him to be a dog that obeys. Bil-Jac has provided me with these training tips to share with you during Pet Responsibility Month.

Pet Responsibility Tips courtesy of Bil-Jac

Joel Silverman, infamous dog trainer and a Bil-Jac advocate, believes in an open-minded approach to dog training. Bond to the dog with your heart, but train with your brain. In other words, don’t get emotional about your training efforts. Make it fun for the dog. Sometimes the dog will need correction. He views the correction as merely an “interruption” of the undesired behavior.

According to Silverman, It is most crucial to build a relationship with your dog first. Find out what he likes and dislikes. You are uncovering your dog’s personality in this phase, which important in order to begin the training process. Below are five dogtraining tips that will make training for successful and enjoyable for you and your best friend ...

5 actionable steps can you share to help owners with training their dog?

First, get to know your dog and build a relationship with him. Find out what he likes and dislikes. Even notice where in the house he prefers to build the bond.

Second, set a goal of what you want to accomplish. If you display any doubt, your dog will pick up on that doubt and be less responsive. Have a game plan.

Third, understand that you will train only part of the behavior in each session. Keep the training sessions short, about two to three minutes. Repeat the session several times a day.

Fourth, keep it as positive as possible when working with your dog, but understand there is a right way and wrong way for a physical correction. Corrections are merely “interruptions.” Be open-minded.

Fifth, always end on a positive note. You want your dog to look forward to the next training session. When it ends, go play with him, take him out for walk and just have a good time with him… maybe he give him a treat.

#RedCarpetReady Oscars Party - Review

Tomorrow night is the 2013 Oscars celebration. I can't wait to see who gets the awards this year! In my opinion, there are so many worthy movies of winning. In honor of Oscars night, we planned our own Oscars Party to get in the zone for Sunday night. Daily's Cocktails and Wholly Guacamole helped make our movie-viewing party a grand success.
Daily's Cocktails make serving drinks so simple - Just open and drink! The alcohol is already mixed in and you can pick them up in your freezer section of Walmart. They are absolutely wonderful. I choose the Margarita, Strawberry Daiquiri, and Strawberry Margarita flavors. Wholly Guacamole has quickly become a staple in our home because everything tastes better with salsa and guac.
With all the people coming for our movie viewing party for the 2011 Oscar winner Toy Story 3, we made lots of food. We cut up flour tortillas and served them warm in bowls with Red Pepper Mango Salsa and Spicy Wholly Guacamole. I do believe the Mango salsa is the best I've ever eaten!
We also whipped up some great breakfast tacos with the Classic Medium Wholly Salsa, scrambled  eggs, shredded cheese, and tortillas. Everyone loved the breakfast tacos and they sure didn't last long.
Wholly Guacamole even offers a container of mixed salsa and guacamole, so I made a big batch of Wholly macaroni and cheese. We let everyone mix their own Wholly delights in so the kids could use smaller amounts (picky little kids, you know).
I also learned that Daily's frozen drinks are great for cooling down your mouth when you've eaten a bit too much spicy salsa. I love the pouches that Daily's Cocktails come in because there is always another one ready when you are.
For the more health-conscious movie attendees we provided a big bowl of fresh baby carrots with Homestyle Wholly Guacamole. By the end of the night, there wasn't a single drop of food or drink left. The movie was hilariously funny and everyone had a wonderful time.
Now you can enter below to win your own Red Carpet Ready Party Kit, full of fabulous Wholly Guacamole products, a $20 Walmart gift card to purchase Daily's Cocktails, plus a red carpet and a selection of great promotional items including two Daily's Cocktail glasses!
Disclosure: I received these products at no charge in exchange for my honest review.
Win a Red Carpet Ready Party Kit!
To enter, just fill out the Rafflecopter form below. You must be at least 21 years old and reside in the USA. Only the first entry is mandatory; bonus entries increase your chances to win. Be sure to give our sponsors some social media love too! Giveaway ends at midnight ET on 3/3/13. Good luck to you and good luck to all the nominees for Oscars night!

Spring Fun for You and Your Family

Spring is one of the most enjoyable seasons of the year. Spring time is right after the cold of winter, so no doubt you're really enjoying the warmth of the spring sun. Plantsare blooming, trees are growing, and life is returning to the world around you. Spring is a wonderful time for families, and there are so many activities that you can enjoy during the spring time. If you want to spend extra special time with your family, consider one of the many fun spring activities below:

Build a Tree House -- All kids dream of having a treehouse in their backyard, but how many of them can actually say that they have one? Why not take the time to builda tree house with your kids? It will be a fun activity that will bring you together, and you can spend some quality bonding time enjoying this project together. It may take a few weekends to complete the tree house, but that's what the time is for, right? With this fun activity, you can make something that's special for you and your kids.

Plant a Garden -- Why not take the time to plant a garden? Spring is the time when flowers bloom and plants grow quickest, and it's a wonderful time to grow vegetables, fruit trees, and other plants. You can work with your kids setting out fun garden décor items, such as garden gnomes, flowering vine plants on trellises, and a flock of plastic flamingoes. There are many great ideas for your garden, and it can be a lot of fun for you to start a garden with your kids. It's a project that you can all work on together over the summer and autumn, and you can enjoy the fruits of your labor once your vegetables and fruits have ripened and are ready to eat!

Build a Bird House -- If you live in an area where there are a lot of birds, building a bird house can provide your children with a wonderful project that will teach them about local wildlife. You can set up the bird house, bird pool, and bird feeder, and spend some time bird watching together. It will be an educational experience, and it can help them to be more conscious about the environment and the creatures they share the planet with.

Take a Camping Trip -- There's nothing like taking your family on a fun camping trip in the woods, and spring time is the perfect camping season. All of the animals are just coming out of their hibernation and winter shelters, and there will be many opportunities for you to watch them in their natural habitat with your kids. A camping trip can be a fun activity that will bring you together, and it may get hot enough to go swimming in the crystal clear lake or swift-running river near your home!

These fun spring activities can be the perfect way for you to bond with your family, and you'll be able to spend quality time with your loved ones now that winter has passed!

Want to Avoid The Cold and Flu Season? Here's How

The 2012/2013 flu season has been one of the worst that America has seen in years, and the evidence lay within the numbers. According to the Centerfor Disease Control, there were over 22,000 cases of influenza in America by the end of 2012; this number up from 849 the same time during the previous year. While flu shots were effective for many people, they aren't a magic bullet - you can still get the flu if you're unlucky enough to become a statistic.

The flu season is not yet over, but there are plenty of things (on top of getting a flu shot) that you can do in order to steer clear of the illness.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Sleep has a dramatic effect on one's immune system, and can make all the difference in the world when it comes to trying to avoidthe flu. Some people find themselves getting only a few hours of sleep each night, which does nothing in terms of fostering a healthier body. In the end, avoiding the flue comes down to building the immune system and steering clear of the virus, and you'll be hard-pressed to do either if you aren't getting enough sleep. Most adults require 8 hours of sleep per night in order to stay in top form, although this number can vary depending upon the person.

Avoid Crowded Places

While you can't sit in your own personal bubble, you certainly can cut down on the amount of crowded places you visit during flu season. Coffee shops, schools and other areas are rife with flu during this time of the year, and the more time you spend there, the more likely it is that you're going to get sick. Don't shut yourself off from the world entirely, but you might want to consider staying out of these and other crowded places during the winter unless you absolutely have to be there.

Take Supplements

A big part of staying healthy is keeping the immune system in good working order, and there's no better way to do this than to take vitamin supplements. Vitamins C and D, for example, are essential for keeping the immune system in check, and should never be overlooked. Since most people don't get enough of these vitamins out of their diet, supplements from an onlinedrugstore are perfect for helping one to stay healthy, and can be purchased inexpensively if you shop discerningly.

You don't have to get the flu this season. If you take the above tips into consideration, chances are you won't!

Ten Creative Fashion Ideas for Stay at Home Mums

When you’re a busy mum with a young family to look after, it can be difficult to find the time to think about your wardrobe. Regardless of how little time you have though, it’s still possible to look fabulous!

Let’s take a look at ten creative fashion ideas for you to try.

Get knitting

Knitting your own clothes is extremely cost effective, and it can be fun too. Just download a pattern off the internet, get a few balls of wool, and the only limit is your imagination.

Upcycle existing pieces

If your old pieces are looking a bit dreary, there’s no need to throw them away. Add a belt to a shift dress, or a splash of dye to a plain tee. They’ll be looking as good as new in no time at all.

Have a swopping party with friends

Your friends are bound to have items of clothing that they no longer need, so why not get together and have a swopping party? You could have a whole new wardrobe without spending a penny.

Don’t be afraid to clash colours

Don’t let traditional fashion rules dictate what you wear. Putting together several brightly coloured items rather than sticking to what you know can have an original and quirky effect.

Create a brooch from dried flowers

A splash of colour can transform an outfit, and accessories don’t have to cost the earth. If you’ve got some dried flowers at home, simply create your own using some jewellery findings.

Make your own jewellery

Making jewellery is remarkably easy. Just start a collection of beads and ribbons in your favourite colours, and you’ll be able to put together necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and much more.

Get out your sewing kit

It’s amazing just how much you can transform an item by getting out your sewing kit. Take up the hem on a long dress to create something just below the knee, or turn your full-length trousers into capri pants.

Send old clothes to the charity shop

Most of us have a wardrobe full of clothes that we hardly ever wear. The result is that it’s difficult to work out what you actually own, and you can overlook pieces that would be a great match for your personal style. By sending your unwanted items to a charity shop, you could discover clothes that you forgot all about.

Turn your fashion items into a home feature

There’s no need to have all your favourite items of clothing packed away in wardrobes and cupboards. Try buying a cheap hat stand and use scarves and accessories to add colour and interest. As well as being a handy storage idea, it could look great in your home.

Add pretty buttons to boring tees

Buttons are cheap as chips, but come in such a wide range of pretty shapes and colours. You can transform simple tees into stunning fashion statements with just a needle and thread.

When you think outside of the box, there’s no limit to what you can create in the comfort of your own home.

Have you found any fun ways to bring your wardrobe up to date? We’d love to hear them!

This article was brought to you by Ruth Hinds on behalf of Jones and Jones Fashion. J&J is a fashion-forward brand specialising in feminine and sexy pieces in a great range of fabrics and tailoring. From casual day dresses to prom dresses, they’re the go-to retailer for quirky and modern styles.

BabyFirstTV Interactive DVDs - Review

In a world full of annoying cartoon characters, BabyFirst has just released a full line of innovative, inspiring, and adorable DVDs. As a preschool teacher, I strive to teach children to work together and be respectful of each other. BabyFirst obviously shares my philosophy and I love the lessons and the messages in this entire line of educational DVDs. Designed for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, BabyFirst teaches children not just the basics of education, but more importantly it teaches them in a quiet, gentle way, rather than telling children to "yell it louder." In reality, we really don't want a generation of kids who are far too loud.
The format of the DVDs is a collection of shorts, or short films, which works perfectly for young children and their short span of attention. BabyFirst uses a combination of animation and real people that both intrigue and entertain children. Harry The Bunny became a fast favorite with my group of preschoolers, but they certainly loved the huge variety of stories across all the DVDs. I definitely recommend the entire collection!
This award-winning series includes Harry The Bunny - Come Along and Play, Shushybye Baby - Bedtime Stories and Songs, Sweet Dreams - Soothing Sights and Sounds, Baby Class - Building Blocks of Learning, Art and Music - Sensory Wonderland, Best of BabyFirst - An Educational Adventure, Color Crew - All About Color and Numbers Around the Globe - Adventures in Counting. Parents and children will also love the website at www.babyfirsttv.com.

Five Tips for Fighting Blogger Writer's Block

Being a blogger is one of the most creative jobs I've ever done. Sometimes I get writer's block so I have to mull over a post for a day or two before I can actually begin writing. With the explosion of blogs across the internet, I'm sure I'm not the only one who struggles with this once in a while. Here are five tips that help me break through my creativity block. I hope they are helpful to you too!
  1. Take more photos. It's often said a picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes when I sit down to edit my photos and write my post, I have a hard time coming up with a hundred words. I've discovered that by taking more photos, it inspires me to see things from another perspective. There have even been times I've deleted the first set of photos on purpose, just to retake them.
  2. Read or watch the news with a notebook. Take notes as you watch your local news. There are many stories right in your hometown. Write down your first reactions to things you hear and see. When watching national or international news, if you find yourself yelling at the tv or sniffling about something wonderful that happened, those may be good post prompts for you.
  3. Eavesdrop on conversations when you're running errands. If you hear something shocking, funny, or adorable, send yourself a text message that will remind you later what happened. Then when you sit down to write, you'll already have something interesting to write about.
  4. Let nature inspire you. Go for a walk, clear your head, listen to the nature sounds around your neighborhood. Take your camera with you and take photos of things you often see and things you seldom see.
  5. Read what other bloggers are writing. Many times when I read a post by another blogger, it sparks a great idea for me. You can also try some of their recipes or do-it-yourself projects, taking your own photos and writing about how it turned out for you. Be sure to give credit back to the original blogger for the idea.

How to Discover the Best Sofas that are Available for Your Home

The type of furniture and that you plan on incorporating in your home is very important because these elements reflect your taste and personality. If you desire to live in a room that’s fully furnished, for example, you should pay attention to the type of sofa, cabinets and other furniture that you would like to place in the space. Make a plan ahead of time and decide what exactly you are looking for and what you can do without. Prioritize and your home makeover will turn out flawless.
Furnishings are Versatile, but Still Plan Ahead
The good news is that furnishings are usually very versatile and you can find many different sizes and styles. However, one of the most important factors to keep in mind when getting ready to purchase interior design furnishings and elements is that you should follow a uniform theme for your home. If you do not have a well thought out plan and you tend to shop spontaneously, you may end up purchasing something that you may regret. Instead of making a careless mistake, think and plan ahead of time and you’ll save money and come home with exactly what you wanted in the first place.
Look for Matching Elements
Part of developing a charming interior is deciding on a common theme, even if that theme ends up being eclectic. For example, the sofa in your bedroom should echo the theme of the rest of the room. Further more, the tone of your space should be consistent with the design that you end up selecting for the other rooms as well. Thus, there is a lot that you need to pay attention to when renovating a space.
The Price Factor
Sometimes the price on upscale stylish pieces of furniture can be quite expensive, which does not make it easy to purchase furniture that you’d love to have in your home. Don’t stress too much though, because you can get a cheapsofa with this discount code on SofaSofa. This website is one of the best places to find a stunning and affordable piece of furniture. Plus, a price problem can also be solved by using discount vouchers. Most stores usually provide discounts during different seasons and if you keep an eye out for discounts, you can lessen your expenses significantly.
Hire an Interior Designer
An interior designer can also come in handy if you are not sure how to precisely redecorate your home. After all, designing and decorating your home takes a lot of careful planning. If you love to have a say in the way your interiors are designed, feel free to hire a designer and tell them what you’d like to see in your house. If you are a perfectionist and you want your home to look a certain way, hiring an interior designer to work on the details and help you choose the best furniture is a great plan when you’re feeling overwhelmed.
Paige One enjoys writing about a variety of topics, from fashion to fitness, to even interior design.

@Sears All Things #Baby Sale #spon

A mantra for new parents: Making the best nest starts with giving your wallet a rest. But the list never ends, right? It seems that preparing physically, mentally and emotionally aren't the only things you need to worry about when it comes to expecting a baby these days. Having a little one calls for some big decisions like choosing the best pediatrician and making a birth plan. The last thing weighing on your mind should be the status of your bank account.
That's why the Sears "All Things Baby" sale was practically made for you. Similar to the effects of prenatal yoga, saving money on baby essentials can be a huge relief. Now get back to concentrating on the important things like what color you'll be painting the nursery. If by chance you forget something on your list, just follow our favorite advice from real parents: Improvisation is okay! http://bit.ly/124Q0ne

The Clog Catcher - Review

The Clog Catcher is a simple twisted wire wrapped with bristles that prevents clogs before they start, by providing a barrier that allows water through but catches hair before it goes down the drain. The small one is designed for the sink and the larger one is designed for the bathtub/shower.
Each package comes in a set of four, two large and two small. I put them in the bathrooms and have been using them for about a week now. I tend to lose a lot of hair when I shampoo and The Clog Catcher is definitely catching it. It is so much easier to pull the hair off the catcher instead of unclog a drain.
It looks like a cute little caterpillar hugging the sink and tub stop! The Clog Catcher also saved my earring from falling down the sink when I accidentally dropped it. This is one ring you're going to want in your bathtub! No more drain snakes, no more costly chemicals and no more plumber fees!
Visit clogcatcher.com to get more information and to order yours today. I'm thrilled with mine and I'm so glad I didn't lose my earring!

Cellnique Skin Care Products - Review

The older I get, the drier my skin feels. I'm always on the lookout for great products that help me retain moisture especially on my hands and face. Cellnique skin care products have been a great help in this search, because their hydrating products make a huge difference with my skin.
The Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Complex is a light creamy serum that soaks into my skin quickly and easily. It leaves a slight sheen on my skin without any greasy or oily feeling. I have been using it on my face and the backs of my hands for about two weeks and I love the softness it leaves on my face.
The Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Silk Masque is like having a spa facial at home. I kind of giggled when I opened the package to find a "surprised" face shape inside. I made my family promise not to take any photos of it on me!
The actual masque peels off the white backing and is applied over the entire face. This required me to actually sit down and relax, which I don't often treat myself to. After pampering myself for about 20 minutes, I lifted it off and rinsed with water. It smells so good and leaves my face drenched in moisture without feeling heavy on my skin.
I definitely recommend these two Cellnique products and I would love to try some more of their products. You can shop at www.cellnique.com and be sure to follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
