We don't do anything special around the house for cold weather because we rent. I like renting because it means someone else is responsible for all that stuff. I do need to call for them to bring me a new furnace filter, though.

ReplyDeleteTo get ready for cold weather I change out my clothing in my closet to my warm items and make sure that our furnace is working and change its filter on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteI bring out my winter clothes, check to make sure the windows and doors are winter proof, i bring out the winter boots, and buy things we may need for winter.

ReplyDeleteI'm in Texas, so it doesn't ever get too cold round here. We just make sure to have good jackets and some space heaters for extra heat ready.
ReplyDeleteWe clean out our dryer vent so we don't have to do it in feet of snow and we change our filter on our furnace.
ReplyDeleteWe split wood. I cook more with the stove and let the residual heat out of the oven into the house.

I get ready for cold weather by taking my winter clothes out of the storage closet and by putting a thicker blanket on my bed. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI get ready for the cold weather by getting all my winter clothes out and washing them from storage. I also put a new furnace filter in, make sure my car is in tip top shape and put away all the yard furniture and clean the lawn mower and finish up yard work!

I rent, so I don't do much other than to pull out the coat and other cold weather gear and a blanket for the bed.

ReplyDeleteI love the winter. We live in a very cold region so we do a lot in preparations. We cut up our firewood, we put plastic on the windows, we add weatherseal to the doors, we buy new boots, coats and mittens. All in all, it is an ongoing process, but one I love.

ReplyDeleteWe pack away our summer clothes & unpack our winter clothes. We cover the air conditioner, rake the leaves, clean out gutters, tune up car, buy lots of HEET for the car, make sure we have a "survival" kit in the car & house, & make sure we have enough batteries, candles & working flashlights. There may be more but I can't think of them right now.

We get ready by cleaning out our air ducts and making sure the furnace is good to go. We also bring all the blankets, scarves, knee high socks, flannel sheets, and slippers out of the closet. :)

we gotta cleaned the heater or sometimes we would buy an extra small heater so we don't get cold, buy extra warm clothes such as new boots, new jackets, new sweaters, sweat pants , warm socks. And of course, we gotta prepare for the winter to comes, that means salt, & a new snow shovel

ReplyDeleteHave the furnace checked. Make sure the blanket on the hot water heater is intact. Close and LOCK all windows and check for leaks. Change the drapes to the heavier ones that block the air flow around windows. Caulk as needed.

ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in Houston, getting ready for cold weather meant keeping an umbrella and a sweater by the door..near my flip flops. Now that I live in a place with Winter, I have learned that it take two entirely different wardrobes to get by. Time to switch out the closets and drawers.
ReplyDeleteI have to put the summer things into the back of the closet, and cover them up from the dust, uncover and bring to the front, the winter things! Be sure the boots are unpacked, the wool socks.. LOL Oh yes and shut the storm windows. The hubby does the boiler checking stuff. We also are in MN and oh boy it's cold here. *sigh* already in the 30's at night.

I live in a maintenance provided townhome, so for the most part the snow is shoveled for me. But I will often have to go out and shovel potty spots for my two wiener dogs. :-)

ReplyDeleteI pack my summer clothes away and trade in my flip flops for boots. I miss my flip flops already. Clean up the yard, gardens and cover the central air unit. Most importantly, check to make sure the snow blower still works!

ReplyDeleteI live in Florida and we don't get too cold down here. Basically we just turn off our A/C once it starts to cool off, which is usually by October, but so far it is too hot to turn it off yet.
