I Saw Jesus on Nevis

#sponsored travel
On one of the days our group was riding around for tours of Nevis, the other journalists in my group asked our driver if he could stop downtown so they could use an ATM. Everyone else piled out of Tanny's van but I stayed behind. I asked if he could swing back around the block so I could grab a shot of these cannons sitting on the Caribbean side of the island. He said yes and pulled up by the curb so I could jump out and take the picture.

As I turned around to go back to the van, I noticed it was empty. I walked over towards the van and found Tanny helping an older man. The old man was dirty, shoeless, and wearing a pair of old jeans that were clearly five sizes too big for him. Tanny was standing in front of the man he did not know, bent over, and tying a piece of thick wire through the front loops of the man's jeans to help keep them around his waist. This sight made my heart leap and this came to my mind:

The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:40

Tanny stood up when he was finished and shook the older man's hand. The old man shuffled away with a smile on his face. How wonderful this world would be if we all stopped what we were doing and helped someone simply because it's the right thing to do! I saw Jesus in Tanny that day.

  1. What a wonderful world we would live in if only each of us would do something small to help someone each day.

  2. Oh my. Yes you did see Jesus.

  3. That was a very kind gesture! And one that more people should do more often.
