Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys and Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating. I am a Boys and Girls Club (BGCA) Back-to-School Ambassador.
This is my daughter Heather and I'm so proud of the young woman she's become. She lives too far away from us in a little town in west Texas, where she is the program director for a Boys and Girls Club. On one of our visits, she gave us a tour of the club and it's so good to see all the good she is doing for the less fortunate children in her town. Heather is an important part of each child's life, not just entertaining them after school and in summers, but also mentoring them in growing up to be good people. She once joked with me that she might have it tougher than parents because she had the "time of the month" talk with three young ladies all in the same month. She is their mentor and she influences their lives in more ways than she will ever know. As her mom, this makes me burst with pride and joy. Her life hasn't been easy and she has had more than her share of challenges and hardships, but she is an example of determination, survival, and success. I tend to think of her job as an American missionary. I try to send her a care package each month of things that she can share with the kids - movies, books, games, and supplies. You can help too, just by doing your own children's back to school shopping!

BGCA has partnered with JCPenney for the JCPenney Cares Round Up Campaign. In the month of July, if you round-up your purchase to the nearest whole dollar while shopping at JCPenney, you can help make a difference in supporting after-school programs at Boys and Girls Clubs across the country. A full 100% of all donations raised will go towards BGCA. Please ‘round up’ when you are doing your back to school shopping at JCPenney to help my daughter and all the other wonderfully dedicated people who make a huge difference in the lives of children every day!

  1. Oh it's over today! I am actually going to be doing a lot of shopping at Penny's for back-to-school. They do a great job of offering so much support to the community. I will keep an eye out for the next one.

  2. Awww... I would be extremely proud if my son did stuff like her when he grows up. What a beautiful heart she's got. You're very lucky!

  3. what a great way to help out the community and i would be so proud of my daughter too!
