Share Your Container Gardening Ideas

Even though we haven't sold our house yet, Johnny and I have been dreaming, er planning, what we'll have at our empty nest home. We both want a large property, at least 15 acres. Now don't laugh if that's not "large" to you. The most we've ever owned is less than a quarter acre. Johnny has this picture in his head of what the property should look like, such as the placement of the trees and where the open spaces of land should be, and although I can't envision what he wants, I know what I want.

I want a small house. One that takes me less than 30 minutes to clean everything. Something cozy with a screened in patio. Maybe two or three bedrooms and a big master bathroom with a shower and tub. It'll be a blank slate that I can decorate and I'm excited about it.
We've decided we want to do container gardening. We'll likely have a courtyard area around the immediate house and the containers will be in the courtyard. We want something waist-high so we're not bending over to do our gardening. We want to grow organically and maybe at some point be self-sustaining (that's a whole 'nother post though). So now I'm trying to envision what kind of containers I want. I've considered using a wooden raised bed garden but I also really like these trough containers at Gaddys plants. If I want to grow organic though, is plastic the right choice? What about those metal water troughs; would they make good container gardens? I'm totally open to suggestions and ideas and I'd love to hear what you're doing or what you would like to do soon.
