Lincoln Logs from K'Nex - Review

Lincoln Logs are classic toys and I remember loving my own set when I was young. I was really excited to receive the White River Ranch Lincoln Log set from K'Nex. Wooden toys are always appreciated by children because it's a "real" material. Parents appreciate them because they last for years!
There are 90 pieces in this building set and even though there is a sheet of directions to build the White River Ranch, there are so many open-ended options in a play set like this one. I put all the pieces into an open bin and set them out in my home daycare classroom.
My two oldest daycare kids are ages 4 and 5 years and they immediately took it to the table to build. I'm guessing they haven't used Lincoln Logs before because they weren't quite sure how to assemble them. I showed them how to lay the logs back and forth, using the notches in the logs.
The included play figures were a big hit too. Preschoolers love pretend play and farm animals are always popular. These are made of plastic so they will last through many play sessions.
The older one wanted to "follow the directions" on the "blueprints" but then decided it was more fun to be creative. I think I will laminate the sheet so they can use it repeatedly. Construction sets are excellent for building fine motor skills in young children!
They worked together, discussing and planning their buildings, for almost a full hour before we had to clean up for snack time. They were very sad to put them away. I'm very happy to have Lincoln Logs available in my classroom!
