Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler - Review and Giveaway

I once asked my friend, "How come you don't recycle all those soda cans?" and she answered, "Because it's easier to throw them in the trash can." Now Rubbermaid has made it easier to recycle them than toss them! The Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler is a plastic lined bag that hangs inside your kitchen cabinet (or any cabinet), making it quick and simple to rinse and toss aluminum and tin cans. At the end of the week, just dump the bag out into the recycle bin.

The Hidden Recycler needs simple assembly when it arrives. You get the lined fabric shaped 5 gallon bag, a handle attachment, a lid and two hooks. The fabric is an attractive grey tweed, the handle and lid are plastic and the hooks are metal but lined with felt so your cabinets do not get scratched up.

The handle slides up from the bottom of the bag, up under the fabric flaps, and the tabs hook through the fabric so there are no worries that the bag will slip off. Smart, huh? The entire product is made from recycled materials and is recyclable as well!

The handle makes it easier to lift off when full to take to the recycle bin to dump. Notice to the back of the bag at the top where the handle has a lip that sticks up...that part hangs on the lid inside your cabinet, so it's easy to hang up and remove when full.

The hooks simply slide into the lid, then hang over the cabinet door. Oops, I have a small issue, my cabinet doors are too thick for these hooks and won't go down all the way over the cabinet door. Since they are made of metal, I'll just have my husband bend them out slightly so they will fit.

The lid is actually the bag holder as well. Inside the bottom of the lid is the slot where the lip of the bag hangs. What a clever design! I'm hanging mine under my sink so that I can dispose of cans right after rinsing. It's even big enough to hold a milk jug!

When the lid is closed, the bag is stored inside the cabinet. It is leak-proof so no more sticky-bottom bags! Plus it's machine washable. I think this is a great idea and the only improvement I would suggest would be to make the hooks a bit more flexible over the cabinet door since many cabinets are different widths. But it also comes with screw hooks if you prefer a look of complete camoflauge. A great product!
