Review: Cupcake Vineyards Red Velvet Wine

Some people think wine tasting is a mysterious art, to be done only by the upper class with worldly experiences and travel. Personally, I am willing to bet more moms drink wine than anyone else. With all the stress and mess we put up with all day long, there are few things more relaxing than an awesome glass of wine after dinner. Plus it looks classy and sexy, something that moms often feel far from.
Even better, wine is good for you. Well, I don't recommend drinking three bottles in one night, but having a glass of wine is actually recommended for women! Men can have up to two glasses as part of a healthy diet. It is shown to reduce heart disease and cancers, and slows progression of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. So my husband uncorked the Red Velvet from Cupcake Vineyards so we could drink to our good health. It's a 2010 California wine and the back of the bottle reads "a heady nose of chocolate, deep rich blackberries, red fruits, and a creamy mocha finish..." You had me at chocolate!!
It's a gorgeous red wine and I inhaled the aroma before tasting. It definitely smells rich, but not in a sugary way. It's got a deep smooth smell. I took a drink and let it sit on my tongue for a minute, then swallowed. It is so smooth....guess that's why they call it Red Velvet, eh? There is no bitterness during or in the aftertaste. It is a medium weight wine, not too heavy and certainly not too light.
It would go well with any kind of steak or red meat, perhaps a braised pork or duck, and I'd even drink it with a chocolate mousse (although that might kind of counteract the health benefits of drinking wine). I'll bet it would be amazing to cook with too. I loved the taste and certainly recommend it!

  6. I recently tried and reviewed this wine and loved it. I noticed the aroma started off with a whiff of alcohol, but that didn't carry through to the taste fortunately.

I'm thinking pair this with cheesecake!

  7. We're red lovers Cabs,Pinots,Merlots,Zins and blends usally from Calif/Wash/Chili /France etc. in the 15-25$ (occ go for the a big buck treat on good market days) but just tried the Cupcake Velvelt Red 2011 at a blind tasting party and found it be a REAL treat right up there along with our $15-25 but at half the price.
    Just my thoughts,
    Thanks.
