Merry Christmas!

On this Christmas eve, I wanted to take a few minutes to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas. If you celebrate something other than Christmas, then I hope that is merry as well. I appreciate all of you who read my ramblings. I have great ideas in mind for the next year on my blog, so stay tuned. May God bless you all.

Matthew 2:10-11 NLT
Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them...'Don't be afraid!' he said. 'I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!'

I Just Discovered NoMoreRack

Do you love deals? Would you like to save 75 percent on clothes and purses? Up to and over 80 percent on electronics? How about 100 percent discount on jewelry? Um, YEAH!!! I just discovered nomorerack Daily Deals and I'm so excited that I just have to tell you about it. Every day, for just one day only, nomorerack offers eight absolutely unbelievable deals, plus a charity deal. Today's amazing deals included free earrings, a watch at 88 percent discount, and fashion hair clips at 73 percent discount. I can hardly wait until midnight to see tomorrow's deals!

One of the deals each day is called a charity deal. It's clearly marked which deal is the daily charity deal by a red box when you hover over it on the site. I think this is such an amazing perk of this website. For each charity item that sells, a portion goes to support one of several charities, such as Family Giving Tree and Bloggers for Joplin. Today's deal is a gorgeous pearl bracelet that normally retails for $59.99 for ONLY $15.00!

Then, there are the Insanity Deals. Yes, the ones that are truly insane deals and totally unpredictable. There are 1,000 Insanity Deals randomly posted throughout the month. Like a $1200 Sony Bravia 52" HDTV for, wait for it, under $60. That's no typo. Sixty bucks. How about an Apple iPad for under $44? Yes, really. You never know when they are going to pop up, so check in regularly! You'll know the Insanity Deals by the purple box. When they sell out, the deal disappears. Most only last a few minutes!

Nomorerack scam worrying you? Don't stress! This website is "buy/safe inspected and guaranteed" and as an added bonus, shipping is $2. Yep, two dollars. I don't know how they do it. I don't care why they do it. I'm just glad they do it. Most of the products come from cancelled orders and overstocks that nomorerack snaps up at bargain prices. They are Paypal Verified, McAfee Secured, and a Verified Authorize.net Merchant. Still not convinced? Check out all the fabulous nomorerack reviews and see what you've been missing!

Oransi Ionic Air Purifier - Review

I am so excited to tell you about the Oransi Ionic Fridge Air Purifier because this little guy does a big job! I hate when my refrigerator smells funny and this purifier makes the fridge smell so fresh. All I have to do is put two batteries in, press the button and put it in the fridge. How simple is that?!
The Ionic Air Purifier for the fridge is smaller than a soda can so it hardly takes up any room. It is completely silent with no fans and there are no filters to change. It's received safety certifications and uses a high negative ion output to freshen your refrigerator without the harmful side effects of ozone found in standard ionizers.
The indicator light on the front lets you know it's working. The first cycle is 30 minutes long, then only runs 5 minutes every two hours, for a total monthly operating cost of about a dollar. It kills bacteria, prevents mildew, and even reduces food spoilage. This is a fabulous gift idea!

Working with a Personal Trainer

It's been almost 48 hours since my last workout with my personal trainer and I can almost move without pain now. Since I was sick last weekend I didn't meet with him. He was here working out with Johnny, but I slept the stomach flu off that day. Saturday, Will showed up promptly at 10a.m. He's always on time! Johnny and I had already stretched out so we got started right away. Johnny's fighting seasonal allergies right now so his energy level is down. I was still tired from working all week, so I felt rather sapped of energy too.
Will worked us through a challenging hour of exercises, keeping us motivated and laughing. As tough as it is, we know it's good for us and we're both so happy with the results we are seeing. I actually had more energy after I cooled down from the workout than before I started! I can definitely tell there are positive differences in my body since I started working out. On Sunday, I was excited to wear a pair of jeans that I hadn't fit into for a while! If you've been thinking you need to get moving more, then give Will a call.  He will show you how to get fast results that are tailored specifically to you with just a short workout a couple days a week!

Should Children Have Homework?

One of the biggest complaints I hear from parents today is the fight that happens over homework. I don't even remember having homework until junior high, other than the occasional big project for a class. Nearly all of our learning was done at school in the classroom. Even young children seem to bring home a huge load of homework every night these days! Then it falls on the parents to make the child work all evening on schoolwork. After doing homework all day, the children really need to relax and play, in my opinion.

When children say they don't want to do their homework, it's not because they are lazy; I think it's because they need a break from working. Yes, there are appropriate times for children to have something to do outside of the classroom, but for the most part I think early academic education should take place in schools. And moral education should take place at home and in church. When children are home-schooled, parents tend to find this balance naturally very early on in the process. If the learning is quality learning, then it doesn't take twelve hours to get through the work. Most home-schoolers usually finish formal classwork in just a few hours.

I remember regular nightly homework starting around 7th grade. My parents helped me as they could, but once I reached 9th grade algebra I needed math help that they couldn't provide. Instead I went to teachers at my high school for assistance. I ended up spending some of my lunch time every day getting math help from an advanced level algebra teacher because he was the only one who could explain it to me in a way I could understand. Then I'd have to go home and do homework all evening too. School was hard for me as a teen and having loads of homework every night was depressing. I cannot imagine how that could benefit a 7 or 8 year old.

Trying to make young children keep on working after they spent eight hours in school is just not a good idea. Kids would be much healthier and happier if they got to come home from school, have a snack and go outside to play or spend time with their family. The Center for Public Education website says there is no conclusive evidence that homework increases student achievement across the board. Some studies show positive effects of homework under certain conditions and for certain students, some show no effects, and some suggest negative effects (Kohn 2006; Trautwein and Koller 2003). I think children should not have homework until at least 6th grade, except for an occasional research project, book report, or science project.
