Having faith while living in this world of ours can be a challenge for me. Every time I turn on the television, I'm bombarded with images that show the darkest side of humanity...murder, rape, incest, disease, hunger, and on and on. It's even harder to look into my own soul and realize that although I've never done some of the more horrifying things, my own sins are still sins. It would be so easy to let the weight of all the depressing parts of life weigh me down. There are times in my life where depression gripped me so tightly that I could hardly breathe. Awful events that involved people I love sometimes left me feeling that God had already passed judgment and we were all lost. That's a terrifying place to be. The world is a terrifying place to be. I cannot imagine trying to navigate my way through life without my faith in Jesus. Sometimes my faith feels very small, but even in the worst of times, I know my God is there for me.My favorite way to "feed my faith" is through music. When I'm working at home during the day, I often listen to my CCM Playlist on my mp3 wireless speaker, which is filled with Contemporary Christian Music. I love to listen to it loudly, because it makes me smile to think I'm tuning out the darkness and drowning out satan. When I'm in the car, I prefer the Christian music radio station over all the others. I guess in a way, I'm trying to deflect the dark noise of the world, by instead bombarding my ears with the messages of God's love, forgiveness, and mercy. After all, in the end, isn't that the only thing that will matter? I also love to sing, and even though I'm sure God is the only who appreciates my voice, I sing anyway. I crave that "goosebumps" feeling I get, of being flooded by the Spirit, when I'm singing from my soul.
One of my favorite CCM groups is MercyMe. The first song I ever heard from MercyMe was "I Can Only Imagine" and it touched me so deeply that I had to pull the car over because I couldn't see through my tears to drive. Since then, I've specifically looked for songs by MercyMe to add to my collection. MercyMe has just released Welcome to the New and I'm so excited that I got a copy of it for review. Their music always refocuses my heart and my mind on the gifts I have and will receive. MercyMe songs can get me up on my feet, dancing because of the rocking beat. My favorite two songs from this cd are "Shake" and "Greater." I love the words "Greater is One living inside of me, than he who is living in the world" because it reminds me that even though satan is here now, so is my God and in the end, my God will triumph over all.
Grab the new MercyMe cd at www.familychristian.com. Welcome to the New features the songs Welcome to the New, Gotta Let it Go, Shake, Greater, Finish What He Started, Flawless, New Lease on Life, Wishful Thinking, Burn Baby Burn, and Dear Younger Me. If you haven't listened to Christian music since you heard your grandmother sing the old hymns, this is a wonderful cd to experience a new way to grow your faith in a more contemporary way. I hope it blesses you in the way it has blessed me.
