Guidecraft Peekaboo Lock Boxes - Review

I am such a big fan of Guidecraft children's products! These brand new Peekaboo Lock Boxes are such a creative, open-ended, versatile idea. It comes with six boxes made of wood and each one has a different way it "locks" so the children get to practice problem-solving skills and fine motor skills as they explore.
Guidecraft combines brightly painted wood with natural wood to create a soft contrast that also helps children learn color recognition. Each wooden box has one shape that fits into its opening. The shape is the same color as the "locked" door. The shapes include a square, diamond, hexagon, circle, half circle and triangle.
To make the boxes even more creative, one side of each box is made of a sturdy plastic see-through window and the colored window also matches the corresponding door and shape. In addition, there is a baseboard with room for all six boxes, each color matching once again. I noticed that this made the toy extremely easy to clean up because everything has its own spot.
I set the Peekaboo Lock Boxes on the carpeting and set the children loose on them. It was fun to watch them explore the different physical aspects of the boxes and locks, but it was even more fun once the pretending began with these learning toys.
At first, all the shapes were named as pets and each shape had it's own pet cage. As the pets visited each other's cages, they had to knock on the locked door to be allowed in. It was really cute to see the children use their manners to say "No thanks, no visitors now." Eventually the shapes became people instead of pets and their play continued to extend over several days. The longevity of play of the Peekaboo Lock Boxes is incredible!
You can purchase the Peekaboo Lock Boxes and tons of great educational toys HERE. Be sure to visit all the Guidecraft Educators' websites below so you can read what they think too! You can also enter below to win your own set of Peekaboo Lock Boxes. You must be at least 18 years old and reside in the US; giveaway ends at midnight ET on 3/17/2013.
