DIY Projects to Revive a Tired Bathroom

#sponsored
Bathrooms are one of the most important spaces in a home. However, bathrooms are often the last rooms to get updates. Because complete bathroom renovations are expensive we may feel settling for an unsightly space is our only option. But with minimal cost and effort you can use DIY projects to brighten up and revive any bathroom.

The best way to start is by taking a full inventory of your bathroom. Note the fixtures and accessories you are now using. Decide what you will keep and what you want to get rid of. Keep in mind that many bathroom accessories can be re-used to serve other functions in the rest of your home.

Choosing Color Schemes

Painting can make a huge difference. The color of a space can impact the energy in the room. Bathrooms are a great place to experiment with colors. Choosing the right bathroom color scheme is not difficult. Let your personal color preferences guide. You may also want to consider the colors used in the rest of your house.

Smaller bathrooms can look larger with the right paint colors. In some instances it is best to paint the ceiling the same color as the walls. This gives a continued look and therefore can make the ceiling appear higher.

Because most bathrooms have white sinks, tubs and toilets, darker wall colors can be used to create a fresh look. For instance, blue and white combinations are often used to convey a sort of beach or cottage feel. White and green creates a sense of spring-like freshness.

Darker colors on the wall will help make accessories stand out. The walls become a wonderful backdrop for coordinated towels, ruffled sheer curtains, and things like wicker baskets.

Little Things Matter

The hardware on bathroom cabinetry can easily be updated. This can give an older vanity a modernized look. Consider updating the knobs and handles on your sink and tub too. The reality is, even little things like shower curtain hooks can make a difference in the overall look of your bathroom.

Add decorative items that are also functional. This can include everything from candles to toothbrush holders, toilet paper stands, and shelves.

Under Your Feet and Over Your Head

New flooring may not be in your budget. However, bathroom rugs are an inexpensive way to add a new look to the space. Coordinate these with the other things in the room.

Good lighting in the bathroom is important. If you have a window in the space you should capitalize on it. Add a window covering that can be adjusted to let in as much sunlight as possible when desired.

Some older light fixtures can be painted to create a fresh look, but others will need to be replaced. Numerous types of bathroom lights are available. Visit home improvement stores to get ideas and inspiration. If you are lucky enough to have a large vanity counter space you may want to include a small lamp.
