Kerflip! Word Game - Review

My family LOVES to play "family games" and the kids were really excited when I told them I had a brand new game for us to play. Kerflip! is a fast moving anagram game where players toss letters out on the board, trying to be the fastest to make a word from the letters on the board. The faster you are, the higher the score you get for your word. All the letter tiles start out in a bag and each player digs out a few to toss on the board.
The first person to call out a word flips their hourglass over to set a time limit for other players to form a word. Once each person says their word, it's scored by adding tiles used in the words. The tiles are white on one side and orange on the other. The white sides are worth ten points, the orange sides are worth five. The first player flips the tiles from white to orange for his word, so those letters are worth less to the next player, and so on. Each round only takes a couple of minutes, but it's fun enough to play it all evening if you like.
At the end of a round, the orange tiles are swept into the cubby at the end of board and the white tiles go back in the bag. Throughout the game there are also opportunities to earn bonus point cards by getting a tile with a little number on it. No peeking at bonus cards until the bag is emptied of tiles!
My guys played while I took pictures, but it was really hard to not get involved. After they all called out their word, I called out one too (because I'm really good at word games thanks to my mom for all those years of playing word games with me). I did keep score for them though.
We have a winner by a five point lead! This is a great "game-night" game and we will certainly be playing Kerflip! on a regular basis. It's designed for ages 8 to adult and can be played with two to four players. It's a brand new game designed by Creative Foundry. You can purchase it HERE, plus you can enter to win below! Follow Kerflip! on Facebook and Twitter too.
Disclosure: I received this product at no charge in exchange for my honest review.

  7. KERFLIP is the first word game (which we know of) that allows kids to play competitively with their parents… without handicapping the parents. How is this possible? Typically, kids jump right out and call the first word they see. This puts pressure on Mom and Pop to call longer words before time runs out, just to keep up with the Juniors!
