Review - Clean Teen Reads Website

As children approach the teen years, there are many more reading choices available to them. On the one hand, this is a great thing. We want our teenagers to be exposed to more ideas and a wider view of the world. On the other hand, it sometimes becomes more difficult to monitor what they are reading. I certainly don't want my teens jumping from Charlotte's Web to Charlotte the Harlot. As a busy parent, I can certainly appreciate the Clean Teen Reads website, where both teens and parents can read reviews by Alison Craig about wholesome books that make a positive impression on our youth. Alison holds a Master's Degree in English, and as a teacher, her work spans from honor students to at-risk youth. Her extensive knowledge lends much credibility to her site. The website is perfect for homeschoolers and for teachers of middle school and high school students!

I searched for Charlotte's Web in both the teen section and the parent section. Although there is a lot of the same information for both, citing examples or insinuations of bad language, nudity, drugs, etc. (plus ratings of none, very mild, and mild, etc.) the parent section goes more in-depth in its review. This allows parents a more specific look at the book and its possible impact on their child. The parent section contains "spoilers" to the story, which are withheld from the teen section so as not to ruin the end of the book for a teen who is researching. I love the concept of a place where parents can easily find lots of wonderful books that are age-appropriate for teenagers. Stop by Clean Teen Reads and check it out!

  2. This website sounds like a fantastic resource for teen readers! My son isn't that old yet, but even now, at 5, I have to be careful about what he pulls off the shelf at the library. I can only imagine how much more difficult it gets in about 8 years!

    Following along from vB!
