Have You Used a Baby Sling?
Walking around the store this morning, I saw several moms with large toddlers in baby sling carriers. I was kind of surprised, because I thought they were for small infants. Granted it's been 16 years since my youngest was a baby, but I never used one. I had one of those front-pack things that you stick their legs through, but I didn't like it that much. I remember my kids' legs not cooperating as I tried to wiggle them into the pack. The baby slings and wraps that I've seen recently are so pretty and look so comfortable to the mom and the baby. I don't remember my own kids being very comfortable in the front-pack. Have you used a baby sling or a front-pack? I saw one dad with a baby backpack and it was so funny because the baby had spit up all over his shoulder the dad was totally unaware of it. Of course I didn't say anything to him either. I think I remember that most of the time I transported mine, it was in a baby carrier seat or a stroller. Honestly, I didn't like to go many places with my kids as newborns because I hated strangers fawning all over them. I always worried about germs. Once they were older, I shopped places that had carts with child seats in them. Now there are even cute little seats that fit inside shopping carts. There are so many options out there for parents nowadays. I guess that's a good thing though, so that parents can make the right choice for their family. Parents today are probably also a lot more mobile than I was 20 years ago. I can hardly believe my daughter is going to be 21 years old this year. I'm betting that within a few years, I'll be looking at baby stuff again (not for me though, for my kids' kids)! What is your preference?

Actually I love my wraps but I may be Bias. I am one of the founding mothers of Wrap N' Wear. I no long own the company or work with them but they are doing a wonderful job. If you can go to wrapnwear.com and check out a location near you or even buy online.
ReplyDeleteI have used both. It really just depended on the kid and what I was doing that determined my preference. For my oldest 2 I only had the front carrier and they did well in it. Maybe because they got used to it almost from day 1. I got my first sling with baby #3 and I liked it for around the house and places I would be sitting. But I still used the carrier if I was going to be walking around a lot. When they outgrew the carrier I knew I could carry them using the sling. I used a snugli or evenflo carrier and a New Native Baby Carrier sling.
ReplyDeleteI use an Ergo baby backpack sling thing for Little Bit. He is almost two now and it will hold a child who is over 40lbs. He is only about 26 pounds now so I figure we have a few more years of use. I adore that thing. I would never be able to take a walk without it!
ReplyDeleteI had a baby wrap for my last two kids. I can't keep track of what they are called , they seem to always change. either way with my first two kids I used a "carrier" which just killed my back. I loved my baby wrap, you can use it as the child grows and change how you wrap it. So much better for my back!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how many new things they come out with for babies. I used a front carrier with all my kids but I always wanted to try the wrap. I just couldn't figured out how to use it correctly.
ReplyDeleteSure wish these were around when I was having babies!
ReplyDeleteYes I have used a baby sling. I used a baby wrap and a baby sling. Loved the wrap, because my girls seemed pretty secure and it was easy on my back. The sling was good when my girls were more than a year old and I could go shopping with out a cranky baby who wanted to be carried everywhere and esp when you had to use the washroom!
